Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz survived a five-set thriller against American Frances Tiafoe to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. Alcaraz, the world number one, dropped the first set but rallied to win 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7-2), 6-2.
The match was a roller coaster of emotions for Alcaraz, who had to dig deep to overcome a determined Tiafoe. The American played aggressively and pushed Alcaraz to the limit, but the Spaniard's experience and resilience proved to be too much.
In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz will face No. 12 seed Tommy Paul of the United States. Paul upset No. 8 seed Matteo Berrettini in the fourth round, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. The other quarterfinal matchup will feature No. 10 seed Jannik Sinner of Italy against No. 21 seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan.
