Most First Nations Linguistically and Culturally Linked
Most First Nations in the Vancouver Island and Coast region are linguistically and culturally linked to groups in the mainland. The Snuneymuxw First Nation, for example, is located in and around the city of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island and is part of the Coast Salish language group.
Shared Territory
When arriving in Victoria from mainland Vancouver, visitors find themselves in the shared territory of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. These two First Nations have a long history of cooperation and have worked together to preserve their traditional lands and culture.
